Wild Spirited Great Tommy Sleep Out - Between Biddulph and Congleton at Wild Spirit Woods
 
We at Wild Spirit Woods are honoured to host a sleep out in aid of our veterans organised by our wonderful ambassador and volunteer Andy Jonah Jones, with proceeds raised donated to supporting homeless veterans.
 
RVBE says "The Great Tommy Sleep Out returns in March 2026, raising awareness of veteran homelessness. Brave the night. Support our veterans."
 
Sleep out in the stunning rural 5 acre site of Wild Spirit Woods. It is just £5 to book your place. There is an optional fundraising breakfast in the tipi the next morning. More details to follow on this with vegetarian option available. 
 
Campfires are permitted and there is a mix of woodland and meadow sites plus some space in the tipi.

Our two volunteer directors have many years of experience working with children, adults and the wider community including mental health, LGBTQ+, refugees etc. Amanda Claire (AuDHD) is a teacher and workshop leader with many years experience working with children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma as well as neurodivergent, Autistic and ADHD. Simon has worked for many years as a mentor. His specialism is addiction and homelessness. They are supported by a superb volunteer team with many years of experience between them in gardening, conservation and community work. 
 
Why Bears On Our Poster?? 
Bears are renowned fighters and were associated with warriors and kings such as King Arthur. We are  also sited between the two bear towns of Biddulph and Congleton. 
In 1944, during the Battle of Monte Cassino, Wojtek The Bear imitated his Polish human comrades, carrying ammunition crates. He was promoted from private to corporal and became a celebrity with visiting Allied generals and statesmen. After the war he was mustered out of the Polish Army and lived out the rest of his life in Scotland at the Edinburgh Zoo.
